Big Heart Fund The Big Heart Fund was established in memory of Big and his big heart. Big died from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy -- a form of heart failure which involves severe enlargement of the heart. It cost $1,500 to get the diagnosis and save his life when he first exhibited symptoms (labored breathing). Big was treated with four oral medications twice a day for a year and a half before he suddenly succumbed to this disease. We were very lucky to have him as long as we did. He was a very sweet, mellow and tolerant cat. Since FRA deals directly with cats from the streets and does not accept owner surrenders, all of our cats have unknown histories. They often have urgent medical needs. Kittens in particular are prone to severe and sudden illness, warranting midnight trips to the emergency vet. It usually costs hundreds if not thousands of dollars to save these cats' precious lives. Your donation can help us save them. Click on Big below to donate through Paypal to the Big Heart Fund.
