Sweetie's
Lizzie's Story
| I was down in the
city and not really paying attention to where I was going when I saw
Lizzie. It was pure luck on her part that I was to find her -- I
never would've gone down that street if I hadn't gotten
lost.
What I saw were a few men throwing scraps to a visibly emaciated dog and laughing. I stopped, rolled down my window, and asked if the dog was a stray. One of the men said someone had brought her in a box and left her there. I knew I had to help her, so I picked her up and put her in my car. For a medium sized dog she was very light. She was extremely well behaved in the car, and kept leaning her head against me. We were very lucky to have an empty dog crate to put her in. Lizzie was greasy and dirty but so happy to be have attention and real food. |

Lizzie and I are indebted to the people at HART in Virginia. They took Lizzie (named after me. I had been calling her 'Sweetie' and 'Doggie') into their adoption program and found her a wonderful home. Lizzie is the sweetest dog I have ever met despite having been betrayed by the humans in her life. I take great joy in knowing she will have a wonderful home of her own where she is loved and cherished.
UPDATE: Lizzie is in a wonderful new forever home!! |
